Jim Nolan, President of Bechtel Equipment Operations is scheduled to welcome attendees to the LITES Event at the Bechtel Welding and Applied Technology Center in Houston, TX, on February 16.

Leadership in Industrial Technology, Education & Safety (lites.org), through events and podcasts, facilitates an ecosystem and conversation by bringing together innovative organizations at all levels of the supply chain - owners, contractors, and technology providers - in a discussion regarding improving safety and productivity in construction and industrial work environments. Organizations involved with LITES aim to combat several factors facing heavy industries including skilled labor shortages, productivity challenges, and safety performance.

The February LITES Event will focus on how virtual reality (VR) is changing the world of skilled craft training, and assessments in heavy industry. During this event, groups of participants will be able to demo multiple VR simulations including:

  • Boom Truck
  • Carry Deck Crane
  • Telescopic Rough Terrain Mobile Crane
  • Aerial Work Platform
At the end of the event, attendees will participate in a roundtable discussion regarding standardizing assessments via simulation for crane and equipment operations.

Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction, and ITI, a global leader in training and technical services for users of load-handling equipment, have joined forces to expand the horizons of the most widely used virtual reality (VR) mobile crane simulator on the market. This collaboration combines Bechtel’s global expertise in construction managment and large scale projects and ITI’s extensive VR and craft training experience to expand a training module library of crane types and practice assessments endorsed by the National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).

The collaboration between the two companies started in 2016, with Bechtel subject-matter experts contributing to the development of ITI’s VR mobile crane simulator project aimed at increasing the quality of training while at the same time, reducing the cost of said training through highly interactive user experience and use of OEM hardware.
